Joyce is a working artist and arts educator. Her work focuses on repetition and the interplay between control and spontaneity. Working in studios in Soho and Long Island City for over 20 years, she has participated in and followed the NYC art scene. She has twice been an Artist-in-Residence at Yaddo, one of the most prestigious artist colonies and also resided at the Vermont Studio School.
In addition to painting and drawing, Joyce has taught art history in public schools, mentored art students at La Guardia Community College, advised member artists at The Fountain House Gallery and curated art exhibitions. She serves on the Board of Directors of The Drawing Center and The Fountain House Gallery, and was a Director at Art in General for six years. Having worked in a studio for over 20 years and critiqued scores of other artists, she has an understanding of artistic processes and can explain it to her audience from the perspective of an artist.
